Starting the dreary day in Diagon Alley

Senior year has a way of feeling both exciting and a little surreal. One minute you’re counting down the days, and the next you’re standing in the middle of Diagon Alley trying to soak it all in before everything changes. Madison’s senior session at Universal Orlando was exactly that kind of day = full of magic, personality, and a healthy dose of Florida weather that decided to drizzle on and off for most of the shoot.

As a Wizarding World photographer, I’ve learned that rain doesn’t ruin a session. Sometimes it just adds atmosphere. The cobblestones looked a little darker, the lanterns glowed a little warmer, and Madison carried the whole day with the kind of easy confidence that makes senior photos feel real instead of staged.
We started in Diagon Alley. The dragon on top of Gringotts may not have been breathing fire due to the rain, but the shop windows were lit and the light drizzle kept most of the crowds moving. Madison looked completely at home among the crooked buildings and wand shops. These are the portraits that feel like they belong in the story – not just a quick photo in front of a famous backdrop.

Next Stop, Hogsmeade
From there we made our way over to Hogsmeade. The village has a completely different energy, especially when the sky is gray and the lights are on inside the shops. We played with the soft, overcast light and let the rain do some of the work. Madison’s expressions stayed natural the whole time. No forced smiles, just the kind of quiet joy and “this is so cool” energy that senior sessions are supposed to capture.

Now how about something different?
We finished the day on Marvel Super Hero Island, which is not a request I get very often! After spending time in the Wizarding World, it was a fun contrast—bigger, bolder, and full of color. The rain was still spitting here and there, but the damp streets and dramatic architecture still gave the photos a cinematic feel. Madison switched gears easily, moving from the more magical, storybook vibe of Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade into something that felt like pure senior energy.

What I loved most about this session was how unbothered Madison was by the weather. Senior year is full of things that don’t go exactly according to plan. The drizzle could have been a distraction. Instead, it became part of the story. The photos feel grounded and authentic because of it – less “perfect vacation day” and more “this is who I am right now.”

That’s really what I aim for as a Wizarding World photographer and Central Florida senior photographer. The locations are incredible, but the best photos still come from the person in front of the camera. Madison brought her own magic to every spot we visited.
If you’re a senior (or the parent of one) who wants portraits that feel like you – whether that’s in the Wizarding World, somewhere else at Universal Orlando, or closer to home in Central Florida – I’d love to hear from you. These sessions are guided, low-pressure, and focused on real personality instead of stiff poses.
